Although the official first day of summer is still a month away, many view the upcoming holiday, Memorial Day, to be the unofficial start of summer. The air gets warmer, the pools open, and the smell of hamburgers on the grill wafts through neighborhoods across the country.
You don’t have to wait until Memorial Day to start up the grill, though. In fact, the entire month of May has been celebrated as National Hamburger Month since 1993 when the infamous hamburger restaurant, White Castle, founded the holiday.
Teach your students to make the perfect hamburger!
In DEPCO’s Culinary Arts curriculum, students learn how to weigh and measure food, how to properly prepare the food, and then present the food in an interesting way. By using equipment and techniques similar to those used by actual culinary artists, students follow recipes to create simple foods that introduce them to this exciting field. Students also apply weighing and measuring skills, safety and sanitation guidelines, and creativity to the completion of recipes for quesadillas, cookies, soup, and even a basic oil and vinegar dressing. They also prepare the perfect hamburger! Click here to learn more about Culinary Arts.
